Video Schema Generator

Enter the page your video is on. We find the video, read its title, thumbnail and length from the player, and write the VideoObject JSON-LD for you. You fill in only what the player did not share, then copy and paste.

Works with YouTube, Vimeo, Wistia, Loom, Vidyard and self-hosted video. We read the page once and do not store it.

How it works

Markup from the page, not from a blank form.

Audit every page on your site ↗
  • Finds the video. Embedded players, video tags and links to video pages.
  • Reads the player. Title, thumbnail, length and, where shared, the upload date.
  • Asks only for gaps. Usually the upload date; sometimes the description.
  • Checks before you paste. Required fields, existing markup on the page, a missing transcript and noindex pages.

What is VideoObject schema?

Structured data, written as JSON-LD in the page's HTML, that describes a video to search engines: its name, description, thumbnail, upload date, length and where it can be played. Google requires name, thumbnailUrl and uploadDate, and recommends description, duration and an embed or file URL.

How does the generator fill it in?

It reads the page you name, finds the YouTube, Vimeo, Wistia, Loom, Vidyard or self-hosted video on it, and asks the player's public oEmbed service for the title, thumbnail and, where the player shares it, the length and upload date. It only asks you for what is still missing, which for YouTube is usually the upload date.

Where do I paste the markup?

In the HTML of the page that shows the video, usually in the head or just before the closing body tag. Most website builders and CMSs have a custom code or header code field per page. Then check the URL in Google's Rich Results Test.

Will this get my video into Google's video results?

It makes the video eligible; it does not guarantee it. Google also needs to be able to fetch the page, see the video as the main content and reach the thumbnail. A transcript on the page helps search engines and AI assistants understand what the video says.

My page has several videos. Which one should I mark up?

Mark up each video you want found, one VideoObject per video. If the page already has a VideoObject for the same video, replace it instead of adding a second one. The generator tells you when it finds existing markup.

Is anything stored?

No. FDM's server reads the public page and the player's public details once and sends them to your browser. The markup is built in your browser.

Can FDM help with the videos themselves?

Yes. FDM edits and produces explainers, product demos, podcasts and short-form video, with readable captions.
